Role Overview
The Assistant Head Student Support plays a crucial role in shaping and delivering exceptional student support services across our college campuses. You will work closely with the Head of Student Support to develop strategies, oversee daily operations, and ensure that all students receive the guidance and assistance they need to succeed academically, socially, and personally.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Student Support in managing and developing the student support team to deliver high-quality services.
- Coordinate and oversee student welfare programmes, including mentoring and wellbeing initiatives.
- Ensure effective support for students with additional learning needs and disabilities, liaising with academic and external teams.
- Lead on safeguarding procedures and promote a safe, inclusive environment for all students.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of induction, transition, and retention strategies to enhance student engagement and success.
- Analyse student data and feedback to identify trends and areas for improvement in support services.
- Collaborate with teaching staff and external agencies to provide holistic support tailored to individual student needs.
- Assist in budget management and resource allocation for the student support department.
- Participate in the recruitment, training, and appraisal of student support staff.
- Represent the student support team at meetings, committees, and external forums as required.
- Act as the campus exams officer.
- Oversee the delivery and quality of Maths and English provision, integrated with the wider study programme, monitoring and addressing attendance and outcomes issues.
Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant degree or professional qualification in Education, Social Work, Counselling, or related fields.
- Proven experience in a student support or welfare role within the education sector, preferably in a leadership capacity.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding policies and student welfare best practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and lead a diverse team effectively.
- Experience supporting students with additional needs and promoting equality and inclusion.
- Competence in managing projects, budgets, and administrative duties.
- Familiarity with data analysis and reporting related to student support outcomes.
